Welcome to the Adopt-A-Child page / Child Sponsorship Program
The majority of the families in these three villages are poor peasant farmers. The community cultivates crops; mainly early maturing maize varieties, beans, pigeon peas and cowpeas. Some families keep one to five head of cattle as a form of insurance against crop failure in dry seasons. Hence, family incomes are very low and unreliable. Due to rampant poverty, the majority of children from this community fail to attend school. They are generally malnourished and lack such basics as clothing. Within each church there is a Small Group primarily made up of five of the mothers in the program. These women are accountable to ensure that the money goes directly to that child to pay for education and may also be used for clothes, food or medical needs depending on what is most necessary after education. The children are looked after and will be included in a mentoring program by the CMA medical students that assist the churches in their medical needs. The adopted children and their family will receive medical attention from the CMA doctors. (see more on Child Mentorship) One third of the money goes to support the church and the needs of their congregation, which include vital things, such as food, housing, electrical and other much-needed projects.
How it works: After you select a child that you would like to sponsor, you will receive a thank you letter explaining how the $15 monthly sponsorship is used. You will also receive a Certificate of Adoption that has a picture of your child and a brief biography of your child. Of the $15, $8.00 goes directly to that child, $5.00 goes to the church and village and $2.00 goes to administrative expenses. The money is wired quarterly to minimize administration costs. For each church, we have a small group in Kenya and one within our ministry to ensure that the needs of the children are being met and communication with your child is possible.
